What is an apartment intercom system?

An apartment intercom system is a communication device installed in multi-unit residential buildings, such as apartments or condominiums, to provide a secure and convenient way for residents to communicate with visitors and grant them access to the building. Intercom systems have become an essential component of building security and access control.

Typically, an apartment intercom system consists of the following components:
Entry panel: This is the external panel located at the building’s entrance. It usually features a speaker, microphone, and a keypad or buttons for calling individual apartments. Visitors use the entry panel to announce their arrival and communicate with residents.
In-unit device: With an analog apartment intercom system, each apartment unit has an in-unit device, which can be a wall-mounted device with a speaker, microphone, and buttons for communication or a more advanced video intercom system that includes a screen to see the visitor. Some systems, such as AlphaTouch even integrate with smartphones, allowing residents to communicate with visitors remotely.
Door release mechanism: When a resident confirms the identity of a visitor and wants to grant access to the building, they can activate the door release mechanism, which unlocks the main entrance door, allowing the visitor to enter.
Apartment intercom systems can be audio-only or include video capabilities for enhanced security. They offer various benefits, such as increased safety for residents, controlled access to the building, and the convenience of remotely granting entry to guests or service providers.
